World Road Traffic Victims Memorial Day is held the third Sunday of November. This day pays honor to the victims and surviving families of road accidents the world over. It is also seen as an opportunity to bestow gratitude on the first responders who saves lives.
Road victim organizations under the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims began observing World Road Traffic Victims Memorial Day in 1995.
By 2000, the Pope, NGOs and other organizations had begun to commemorate victims of traffic fatalities on the 3rd Sunday of November, calling the occasion as World Day. October 26, 2005, the UN General Assembly acknowledged it as a World Day.
